Remember that, in the beginning of the game, your characters have access to only one Source Point - this means that some of the abilities won't be available and you will have to regenerate that point after each use. I don't recall that there's any Source accessible to you before you've escaped the fort, but I could be misremembering. One container can be found in Vault of Braccus Rex and one near Siva's House. If you haven't made it out of Fort Joy yet, though, I'm pretty sure you'll need to do that before you encounter any Source. Repeat until everyone's full-up on Source! Click the fountain to create a Source pool and have your collar-less characters walk over the pool to absorb it.
